Abstract
HELLP syndrome is a complication of severe multisystem preeclampsia characterized by a classic triad of hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and thrombocytopenia. Its complications can lead to maternal mortality and even more fetal incidence. The etiology is unclear, however the risk factors resemble those of preeclampsia. The main treatment is the termination of labor and this goes hand in hand according to the gestational age of the patient at the time of delivery. The diagnosis must be made and treatment initiated early and in a timely manner in order to reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality.
