Abstract

SARS-CoV-2 is a new type of coronavirus, which appeared in late 2019 in Wuhan, China and then spread around the world. It was declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020. Various dermatological findings of this virus are nonspecific. The clinical spectrum of COVID-19 is better defined day by day, as new symptoms are identified. Several studies indicate that different skin manifestations have appeared in this infectious disease. This review summarizes the current knowledge about cutaneous lesions associated with COVID-19, based on the clinical characteristics, phases of the disease, evolution and therapeutic management of each of them, in order to give an overview of the possible pathogenic mechanisms with their contributing factors. The true prevalence of skin lesions associated with COVID-19 is still unknown, emerging studies are currently being included to expand our knowledge of these atypical skin manifestations. Additionally, it is considered that skin lesions could be important towards diagnostic approach for suspected cases of COVID19.
