Abstract
Hidradenitis suppurativa or reverse acne is a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin that affects the terminal follicular epithelium of the apocrine glands characterized by the recurrent appearance of nodules, fistulous pathways or purulent abscesses typically in intertriginous areas. Its diagnosis is clinical, including primary and secondary criteria, as well as the possibility of performing a biopsy for differential diagnosis. The etiology of HS is not clearly established, and mechanisms of immune deregulation, genetic predisposition, smoking and obesity are postulated, also associates various diseases such as: inflammatory bowel disease, pyoderma gangrenosum, polycystic ovary syndrome, among others, so it could even be classified as a systemic disease. Treatment options include pharmacological, non-pharmacological and surgical therapy and it should be appropriate, a late treatment can occur with sequelae in the form of fistulas and extensive scars that affect the psychosocial sphere of the patient, limiting thus their quality of life.Keywords
