Abstract

Cocaine is a psychoactive substance widely used recreationally. The indiscriminate use of this substance generates multiple consultations in emergency services, mainly due to its cardiovascular effects. The physiopathological mechanisms act mainly in the sympathetic nervous system, cardiomyocyte, platelets, sodium and potassium channels, among others. Cocaine is still highly prevalent and accessible in the general population and given its cardiovascular toxicity, there is a public health imperative to educate the population in order to reduce their use and associated morbidity and mortality.
